We’ve all gone through hard times. And we all get through them. However, some get through them better than others. So what is their secret? Most of it has to do with attitude. Here are 13 things to remember when life gets rough:大家都有过灰暗的光阴,最后也都熬过来了。

1. What is, is坦然接受现实

The Season 3 finale of Better Call Saul is right around the corner, and while Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) hasn’t achieved full Saul Goodman status, he’s well on his way. But while the Breaking Bad prequel series has been great at documenting his gradual decline into the crime underbelly of Albuquerque — and Heisenberg’s eventual crystal meth empire, McGill is still skating the fine line between good and bad, legal and illegal, right and wrong.

5, We do strange things for the people we love, we lie to them, we lie for them. Then maybe some bombs along the way but we never stop lying best for them. That makes it such a tough job, but kind of the best job in the world. (S1E6 Claire)

Buddha’s famous saying tells us: “It is your resistance to ‘what is’ that causes your suffering。” Think about that for a minute. It means that our suffering only occurs when we resist

And yet, I’d be remiss if I ended the Better Call Saul conversation on Jimmy, because the story Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have presented to the masses is just so much more than that. Over the past three seasons, we’ve watched Mike (Jonathan Banks), Chuck (Michael McKean), Nacho (Michael Mando) and Kim (Rhea Seehorn) all struggle with their own versions of morality. It feels as if the finale is setting things up “break bad,” so to speak, for all involved.

6, We tell our kids it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, but let’s be honest, winning feels pretty great. There’s nothing like that golden moment in sun. I think every parent probably wants that for their child. And maybe a little bit for ourselves too. Sometimes we push too hard and that leads to a lot of resentment and guilt. So how much is too much? Here’s what I come out: guilt fades, hardware is forever. (S1E7 Jay)

how things are. If you can change something, then take action! Change it! But if you can’t change it, then you have two choices: (1) either accept it and let go of the negativity, or (2) make yourself miserable by obsessing over it。

It’s hard not to have empathy for every character here — yes, I even want to give Chuck a hug — but last Monday’s (June 12) episode, titled “Fall,” really put Kim’s emotional and physical well-being into question.

7, We’re both with people different from us. And that’s kind of creative stuff. But you want different. (S1E12 Jay)

2. It’s only a problem if you think it’s a problem

But, pulling all-nighters and working one’s self ragged can only take a person so far, and as we watched her fall victim to a jarring car accident — on her way to close the Gatwood Oil deal — it’s hard not to wonder: Is this Kim Wexler’s Breaking Bad moment? Will the accident and its aftermath, be the pivotal moment that leads Kim down the road we all know Jimmy will eventually take? Or with this be the straw that breaks the proverbial camel’s back — leading Wexler to cut ties with McGill once and for all?

8, Can people change? I don’t know. People are who they are. Give a take 15%. But that’s how much people can change if they really want to. Whether for themselves or for the people they love. Yeah, 15%. But you know what? Sometimes that’s just enough. (S1E13 Mitchell)

Many times, we are our own worst enemy. Happiness is really dependent on perspective. If you think something is a problem, then your thoughts and emotions will be negative. But if you think it’s something you can learn from, then suddenly, it’s not a problem anymore。

Ahead of Monday’s Season 3 finale, “Lantern,” I had a chance to once again speak with Rhea Seehorn about the journey Kim has taken throughout the series. A lot had changed from the last time we spoke, and as always, she gave me some wonderful insight on Kim’s internal struggles and how they’ve shaped her character’s trajectory throughout the past three seasons.

9, Everybody’s afraid of something. Right? Height, clown, tight spaces. Those are things you get over but then is your children. Will they fit in? Will they be safe? Those are fears you never get past. So sometimes all you can do is take a deep breathe, hold them close and hope for the best. I mean things don’t always work out. But you gonna love it when they do. (S1E16 Phil)

  3. If you want things to change, you need to start with changing yourself

10, For years and years everybody’s desperately afraid to be different, in any way. And then suddenly, almost over night, everybody wants to be different. (S1E18 Mitchell)

Your outer world is a reflection of your inner world. Don’t you know people whose lives are chaotic and stressful? And isn’t that largely because they feel chaotic inside? Yes, it is. We like to think that changing our circumstances will change us. But we have it backwards—we need to change ourselves first before our circumstances will change。

A lot has transpired since the beginning of the season. I have to ask, how’s Kim doing now?

11, Why did he(Van Gogh) paint the “Starry Night”? Maybe because the sky’s beautiful and everybody likes looking at it. And it reminds us that something’s up there watching over all of us. (S1E18 Luke)
